Our History

The Brighton Dental Group had it’s origins at 7 Collins Street, Melbourne in the late 1890s. 

Mr Evan Bowen conducted his practice there until around 1950. Evan Bowen was one of the first dentists in Melbourne to practice with a dental degree from a university. Most dentist had learned their trade in an apprenticeship.

He was followed in practice by Drs Peter and Vera Bowen. This husband and wife team continued in Collins Street until the mid 1970s. The practice then moved to its present location in a purpose built facility. 

In 1985 the Drs Bowen were joined by Dr Patrick Russo. Dr Russo succeeded the Bowens in November 1987 on Peter Bowen’s retirement. 

Patrick Russo was joined in the practice by his wife Dr Susan Needham, specialist orthodontist in 1990. 

The practice has grown over the years and the rooms have been renovated and remodeled to reflect the changes in dental practice and remain modern and be able to provide high level care. 

Since 2023, Dr. Tara King has proudly taken over the practice, continuing its 130-year tradition of excellence in dental care.
